PREFIGURATION is a painting the Artist made in his hometown of New York for his mother's birthday on the sixth of August 2001, scarcely more than a month prior to the destruction of the World Trade Center. At the time he had a vision of the Brooklyn Bridge facing west, looking towards Manhattan. There are no buildings present in the background; only a haze obscures them. Replacing the vehicles that would be seen in the roadway is a traffic of human beings praying towards Mecca. To the Artist, the arches of the bridge have always looked decidedly Muslim, and a surah from the Koran is emblazoned upon them.
